MP3 to MOV, with a picture

Your own cover image

Pair the MP3 with album art, a logo, or a photo. It is fitted inside the frame without stretching.

Optional waveform

Add a moving sound-wave bar so the video looks alive instead of frozen.

Plays where MOV plays

H.264 video and AAC audio in a standard MOV, the combination video platforms and editors accept.

Ends with your audio

The video runs the length of the sound, give or take half a second of the last frame. Nothing is cut off.

Light on your device

A still picture is far cheaper to encode than real footage, so the file stays small and the wait is about the length of the audio.

Nothing is uploaded

The audio and the picture are processed in your browser tab and never sent to a server.

Three steps to mp3 to mov

  1. 1

    Drop in your MP3 file

Pick the MP3 (MP3, WAV, M4A, OGG, FLAC, and AAC also work) from your device. It is read in your browser and never uploaded.

  2. 2

Add a picture, or keep the plain frame

Choose a cover image to show while the audio plays, or skip it for a clean dark frame. Tick the waveform box if you want a moving bar over the picture.

  3. 3

Make the MOV and download it

Press the button, watch the progress bar, play the result on the page, then download the MOV. The video is 1280x720 and ends exactly when the audio does.

What people make from MP3 files

A video platform will not take a bare MP3. Wrapping it in a MOV with a picture runs in the browser tab, with nothing uploaded.

Share a song on a video platform

Musicians turn a MP3 track and its cover art into a MOV for YouTube, Facebook, or Instagram, which will not take audio alone.

Post a podcast clip

Put a show logo behind a segment, add the waveform, and share a clip that plays with the sound on in a social feed.

Send a voice message as a video

Messaging apps and email tools that only preview video can show a recorded message with a title card.

Feed a video editor

Bring audio into an editor that wants a video clip: a MOV with a plain frame drops straight onto the timeline.

Frequently asked questions

Can I convert MP3 to MOV without a picture?

+

Yes. A MOV needs a video track, so if you add no image the tool draws a plain dark 1280x720 frame and puts your audio over it. MOV is Apple's QuickTime container, the format Final Cut and iMovie handle most smoothly.

Why would I turn MP3 into MOV at all?

+

Many places only accept video: YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, and some video editors will not take a bare audio file. Wrapping the audio in a MOV with a still image is the standard way round that.

Can I add a waveform or a cover image?

+

Both. Drop in any JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF, or AVIF as the picture; it is fitted inside a 1280x720 frame without stretching. The optional waveform box draws a white sound-wave bar along the lower part of the frame that moves with your audio.

Is my audio uploaded anywhere?

+

No. The conversion runs in your browser with ffmpeg compiled to WebAssembly. The audio and the picture stay on your device, which also means there is no account, no queue, and no file-size limit beyond what your browser can hold (up to 2GB).

How long does it take?

+

Expect it to take about as long as the audio itself, sometimes longer on a slower device: a 3 minute song took about 2.5 minutes in our test, and the waveform option adds around half again. The work runs on your own processor, so a long podcast takes proportionally longer. Keep the tab open until it finishes.

What video quality do I get from the MOV?

+

The MOV is 1280x720 at 25 frames per second, H.264 video with AAC audio at 192 kbps. Because the picture never changes, the video track is tiny; the file is only a little bigger than the original audio.
