Speaker test
Play a beep on the left, the right, and both speakers.
Nothing playing.
If you hear the left beep on your right side, your left and right outputs are swapped. If a beep is missing, check the cable, the balance setting and the output device your computer is using.

Frequently asked questions
How do I know if my left and right speakers are swapped?
+
Press Left. If the beep comes from the speaker on your right, the channels are swapped, either in the cable, the speaker placement or the system's audio settings. Swap the speakers over or fix the balance.
What if one speaker is silent?
+
Check the speaker's own power and volume, the cable and plugs, and the balance slider in your system's sound settings. Then try another cable or output. If a different output works, the fault is in the first one.
Does this work for headphones?
+
Yes. The left beep should sound in your left ear only and the right beep in your right. A beep that is faint, crackly or in both ears points to a damaged cable or driver.
Why does the beep sound slightly in both sides?
+
Speakers placed close together, a mono output, or a Bluetooth device set to mono can blend the channels. Check that stereo output is selected and that the audio is not set to mono for accessibility.
Does it work with a surround sound system?
+
It tests the left and right front channels of whatever output your computer is using. It does not address the centre, rear or subwoofer channels individually.
Is any audio file loaded?
+
No. The beep is generated live in your browser and nothing is uploaded.
