Video background remover

Blur or replace the background of a video. No green screen, no watermark, and nothing leaves your browser.

Drop a video here, or click to browse

MP4, MOV, WebM, or M4V — up to 60 seconds

A background remover without the paywall

No green screen needed

An in-browser model finds the person in your video, so ordinary footage shot in a room works without any special setup.

Blur or replace

Soften a messy room with light, medium, or strong blur, or swap the background for a flat color when you need a clean cutout.

Ready-made green screen

Pick green and the person sits on a flat key color you can remove in CapCut, DaVinci Resolve, Premiere, or any editor that supports chroma key.

Original sound kept

The audio track from your clip is carried into the finished MP4, so there is no re-syncing a voiceover afterwards.

No watermark, no minute cap

Free-tier video editors stamp their logo on exports or ration AI minutes. Here you get a clean MP4 every time.

Runs on your device

Frames are processed in your own browser tab. Nothing is uploaded, so footage of your face and your home stays with you.

Remove a video background in three steps

  1. 1

Add a clip with a person in it

Drop an MP4, MOV, WebM, or M4V file of up to 60 seconds onto the page. It is read from your disk, not sent anywhere.

  2. 2

Choose blur or a solid color

Blur keeps the room but softens it, in three strengths. Solid color swaps the background for green, white, black, or blue. Green gives you a ready-made green screen to key out in any editor.

  3. 3

    Process and download the MP4

The background is cut out frame by frame and the video re-encoded in your browser. When the progress bar finishes, preview the result and download an MP4 with the original sound, no watermark, no account.

When a video needs a different backdrop

A cluttered room behind a speaker, footage that was never shot on a green screen, or a set of clips that should look like they belong together: each is a background problem.

Hiding a messy room on a recorded call

Blur the bedroom, office, or kitchen behind you in a recording you already made, without having to re-shoot it with a virtual background turned on.

Creating a green screen after the fact

Shot against a wall instead of a green sheet? Swap the wall for green and key it out later to place yourself on a slide, a product shot, or a different scene.

Clean talking-head clips for social

A solid color behind a speaker looks deliberate in short-form video, and keeps viewers on you instead of the shelf behind you.

Consistent team and course videos

Give a set of recordings from different homes the same plain white or blue backdrop, so a course or an intro reel looks like one production.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a green screen to remove a video background?

+

No. A green screen makes the job easy because the software only has to delete one color. This tool uses a machine-learning model that recognizes people, so it works on ordinary footage: a bedroom, an office, a kitchen. A plain, evenly lit background still gives the cleanest edges.

Does it work on anything other than people?

+

No, and it tells you so. The model is trained to separate a person from what is behind them. Pets, products, and objects are not reliably picked up, so if no one is clearly in frame the tool stops with a message instead of handing back a fully blurred clip.

Is there a watermark or a free-plan limit?

+

There is no watermark, no account, and no monthly minute allowance. The limits are practical ones: clips up to 60 seconds and 500MB, because the work happens on your own device. For a longer video, trim it into sections first and process each one.

Can I get a transparent background?

+

Not in this version. Transparency needs a video format with an alpha channel, which MP4 does not have and which most editors handle differently. The practical route is to choose the green option and key it out in your editor, or to use the solid color you need.

How long does processing take?

+

The clip is processed on your machine, so it depends on your device and the clip. Expect a few times the length of the clip on a recent laptop, so a 30-second clip takes a couple of minutes; a phone is slower. The progress bar tracks real frames processed, not an animation, and you can cancel at any point.

What happens to the audio and the frame rate?

+

The soundtrack is carried over, encoded as AAC. Video is output at 30 frames per second, and anything larger than 1280 pixels on its longest side is scaled down to keep browsers from running out of memory, so a 4K clip comes back at 720p-class size.

Are my videos uploaded to PixelTools?

+

No. The segmentation model, the compositing, and the encoder all run inside your browser tab. The model files load from PixelTools once and are then cached, but your footage never leaves your device.
