Turn text into Wingdings symbols, or decode Wingdings back into letters. Free, private.
Your Wingdings will appear here. What the Wingdings translator does
Both directions
Turn text into Wingdings symbols, or paste symbols and read the text back.
All 94 keys covered
Every letter, digit and punctuation mark on a standard keyboard has its own symbol.
Paste-anywhere output
The result is plain Unicode text, so it pastes into chats, bios and documents without a font file.
Live results
The result updates as you type, and any character with no Wingdings symbol is listed rather than dropped.
Reads look-alike symbols
Decoding accepts the common skull, flag and circle stand-ins used by other Wingdings tools.
Stays in your browser
Nothing you type leaves your device.
Translate in three steps
- 1
Choose the direction
Pick text to Wingdings to turn words into symbols, or Wingdings to text to read symbols you already have.
- 2
Enter your text
Type or paste your message. Upper and lower case letters give different symbols, and spaces and line breaks stay as they are.
- 3
Copy the result
Copy the symbols and paste them anywhere. If a symbol shows as a box, your device has no font for it yet.

Frequently asked questions
Is this the real Wingdings font?
+
Not the font file. Wingdings is Microsoft's font and cannot be shared, so this tool gives you the matching Unicode symbols instead. The symbols are plain text, so you can paste them into messages, bios and documents, and they look the same on any device that has the symbol. To see classic Wingdings drawings in Word, type your text and set the font to Wingdings there.
How does the Wingdings translator work?
+
In the Wingdings font, every key on your keyboard draws a symbol: A is ✌, E is ☜, J is ☺ and the lowercase a is ♋. This tool swaps each letter, digit and punctuation mark for the symbol its key draws, so "Hi" becomes a pair of symbols. Decoding runs the same table backwards, so a message in symbols turns back into the original text.
Why do some symbols show as empty boxes?
+
Some Wingdings symbols were only added to Unicode in recent years, and older phones and computers have no font for them. Updating your system, or opening the text on a newer device, usually fixes it. The copied text is still correct, only the picture is missing.
Why is the output different from other Wingdings translators?
+
Several symbols have more than one close Unicode match, and each site picks its own. This tool uses the mapping Unicode published for the font. When decoding it also reads the common skull ☠, white flag ⚐ and black circle ● look-alikes, so text from other tools usually still decodes.
Can I translate Wingdings to English?
+
Yes. Switch to Wingdings to text and paste the symbols. Every symbol that matches a Wingdings key turns back into its letter, digit or punctuation mark. Symbols from Wingdings 2, Wingdings 3 or Webdings are a different font and are not decoded.
Does it change letters with accents, or emoji?
+
No. Wingdings only has symbols for the keys on a basic keyboard. Letters such as é, other alphabets and emoji are left as they are, and the tool lists them under the text so you can see what was skipped.
