Frequently asked questions
What is an invisible character?
+
An invisible character is a real Unicode character that draws nothing on screen. Some are blank but have width, like the Hangul Filler (U+3164), and some have no width at all, like the Zero Width Space (U+200B). Because they are not the ordinary space, apps do not trim them away.
How do I copy and paste a blank space?
+
Press Copy next to any character in the list, then paste it into the app. The paste looks empty, but the character is there. If an app says the field is empty or rejects it, try a different character from the list.
Which blank character works for a blank name?
+
It depends on the app, and apps change their rules. Hangul Filler (U+3164) and Braille Pattern Blank (U+2800) are the ones most often accepted for blank usernames and names. Zero-width characters are usually rejected as names. Try one, and if it is refused, try the next.
Why does my invisible character show as a box or a space?
+
Some old fonts and apps do not have a glyph for these characters and show a box. Others replace them with a normal space. Try a different character, or paste it into a different app.
Is the Braille blank the same as an empty character?
+
It is the Braille pattern with no dots (U+2800). It looks empty and is counted as a real character by most apps, which is why it is popular for blank text. It is not the same as a normal space.
Does this tool send what I copy anywhere?
+
No. The characters are built in your browser and copied to your own clipboard. Nothing is uploaded or stored.
