Frequently asked questions

Is this a real English to Klingon translator?

+

Not a full one. Klingon (tlhIngan Hol) has its own grammar and word order, so word-by-word translation gives wrong sentences. This tool has a short list of well-known phrases such as nuqneH, Qapla' and qatlho', and a spelling helper for names.

Why do capital letters matter?

+

In the standard romanisation, case changes the sound. Lowercase q is a soft k and capital Q is a deeper one, and D, H, I and S are separate letters from d, h, i and s. Changing the case changes the word.

How does the name spelling work?

+

Klingon has no k, c, f, x or z. This tool writes k as q, c as ch, f as v, x as qS and z as S, and it capitalises D, H, S and I where Klingon uses them. th becomes tlh. So Kim becomes qIm. It is a styling helper, not an official Klingon name.

Does it output the Klingon script?

+

No. The tool writes romanised Klingon. The pIqaD script is not part of standard Unicode and needs a special font, so there is nothing to paste reliably into most apps.

Is my text uploaded anywhere?

+

No. Everything runs in your browser.
