Frequently asked questions
Is this a complete Na'vi translator?
+
No. Na'vi has a real grammar with prefixes, infixes and case endings, and a full dictionary is far larger than this tool. It offers a short list of widely quoted words, such as kaltxì (hello) and irayo (thank you), and a spelling helper for names.
How does the name spelling work?
+
Na'vi has no b, d, g, c, q, j or x. This tool replaces b with px, d with tx and g with kx, which are the Na'vi ejective stops, and writes c and q as k, j as ts and x as ks. So Bob becomes pxopx. It is an approximation of how a name might sound, not an official Na'vi name.
What do the apostrophe and accents mean?
+
In the Na'vi alphabet the apostrophe marks a glottal stop, like the pause in uh-oh, and the grave accent in kaltxì marks the short vowel ì. Keep them when you copy a phrase, because they are part of the spelling.
Can I translate whole sentences?
+
Only if the sentence is in the phrasebook. Unknown words are respelled rather than translated, so a long English sentence will not turn into correct Na'vi.
Does my text leave my device?

No. Everything runs in your browser.
