Why use PixelTools to convert gif to jpg

First frame as a clean JPG

Animated GIFs become a single still picture, taken from the first frame.

White background for transparency

Transparent pixels are filled with white so there are no black patches in the JPG.

Adjustable quality

Choose the JPG quality to trade file size against detail.

Private and batch-ready

Convert many GIFs at once, all in your browser, with nothing uploaded.

Three steps to convert gif to jpg

  1. 1

    Drop your GIF

Select or drag one or more .gif files. They are opened in your browser, not on a server.

  2. 2

First frame is flattened onto white

The first frame is drawn on a white background, because JPG cannot store transparency, then compressed as a JPG at your chosen quality.

  3. 3

    Download the JPG

Save the .jpg or get a ZIP of them all. It will upload and open anywhere JPG is accepted.

When to convert GIF to JPG

GIF is great for tiny animations, but it is an awkward format for stills. Converting to JPG makes the picture work with places that only take photos.

Upload forms that reject GIF

Job sites, classifieds and ID checks often accept JPG and PNG only. Convert your GIF and the form takes it.

Sharing a still from a meme or reaction GIF

Need just one frame to post or print? The first frame comes out as a normal photo file.

Smaller files for photographic GIFs

A photo saved as GIF is often large and grainy. As a JPG it is usually smaller and loads faster.

Print and design workflows

Print shops and many design tools expect JPG for images. Converting a GIF avoids a format error at the last minute.

Frequently asked questions

What happens to an animated GIF?

+

JPG is a still format, so only the first frame is saved. Animation is not kept.

What happens to transparent areas?

+

JPG has no transparency, so see-through areas are filled with white. If you need to keep transparency, convert to PNG instead.

Will the quality drop?

+

JPG is lossy, so there is a small quality loss, tiny at the default setting. GIF only has 256 colors, so a GIF can't gain quality in the move to JPG, but it will not look worse in any way you can see.

Why would I want a JPG instead of a GIF?

+

Many places that take photos, such as ID uploads, print services and some social sites, want JPG and reject GIF. JPG files for photos are also usually smaller.

Can I convert many GIFs at once?

+

Yes. Drop as many as you want and download the JPGs one by one or as a ZIP.

Is anything uploaded?

+

No. Conversion happens in your browser, so your GIFs stay on your device.
