What is an ARW file?

ARW is Sony's Alpha RAW format, written by Alpha mirrorless cameras, the RX series and ZV vlogging cameras. It is the untouched sensor data, which is why a single ARW from a 24 megapixel body is around 25 MB.
Which Sony cameras are supported?

We tested an Alpha 7 III ARW at full 6024 by 4024 resolution. Other Alpha, RX and ZV bodies use the same format family, and SR2 and SRF files from older Sony cameras are accepted too.
Are compressed and uncompressed ARWs both fine?

Yes, including the 14-bit uncompressed option. If a newer variant cannot be decoded, the page tells you which file failed instead of silently skipping it.
Why do the colors look different from Sony's JPG?

Creative Styles and Dynamic Range Optimizer are applied by Sony's own software. Here the RAW is developed with your camera white balance and a neutral sRGB curve, which is a good base for further editing.
Is it really private?

Yes. The ARW is decoded in your browser using WebAssembly. No upload happens, so there is no server copy of your photo.
