Why use PixelTools to convert cr2 to jpg
Reads Canon EOS CR2 directly
Opens CR2 files from the 5D, 6D, 7D, 70D, Rebel and other EOS bodies without Canon's software.
Full sensor resolution
The JPG keeps every pixel the sensor recorded, so you can still crop in later.
Adjustable JPG quality
Trade file size against detail with the quality slider, from web-sized to near-lossless.
Nothing is uploaded
Your photos are developed on your own device, which matters when a card holds client work.
Three steps to convert cr2 to jpg
- 1
Drop your CR2 files
Drag in one or more .cr2 files from your card or Lightroom export folder. They are read locally in the browser.
- 2
The RAW is developed
A WebAssembly build of LibRaw applies the camera white balance and demosaics the sensor data into a full-color image. Large files take a few seconds each.
- 3
Download your JPGs
Save each JPG or take them all as a ZIP. They open on any phone, laptop or website.
Who converts CR2 to JPG?
A CR2 is a working file for editing, not a file for sharing. People convert them to JPG when a photo has to go somewhere that does not understand Canon RAW: a client, an upload form, a phone.
Sending proofs to a client
Clients cannot open CR2. A folder of JPGs lets them pick favorites from their phone without installing anything.
Uploading to a marketplace or stock site
Etsy, eBay, listing portals and stock agencies take JPG only. Convert the CR2 and upload.
Checking a shoot on a PC without Lightroom
Windows cannot preview most CR2 files without a codec pack. Converted JPGs show up in File Explorer thumbnails.
Quick edits in a phone app
Phone editors do not handle desktop Canon RAW well. A JPG imports straight into Snapseed or Instagram.
Frequently asked questions
What is a CR2 file?
+
CR2 is Canon's RAW format for EOS cameras from the 20D era through the 5D Mark IV and 80D. It stores the sensor data before any sharpening, color or tone is applied, which is why a CR2 does not open in most apps and why it is large.
Why does my JPG look different from the preview on my camera?
+
The converter develops the CR2 with the white balance you set when shooting and a standard sRGB tone curve. Canon's Picture Styles (Portrait, Landscape and so on) are applied by Canon software, not stored in a way other tools can use, so the result is a neutral starting point.
Does it work with CR3 files from newer Canon cameras?
+
CR3 is a different container and has its own page. Dropping a CR3 here also works, since the same decoder reads both, but the CR3 to JPG page is the better match for EOS R bodies.
Is the full resolution kept?
+
Yes. A 22 megapixel CR2 from a 5D Mark III comes out at 5796 by 3870 pixels, the full sensor size.
Is my photo uploaded anywhere?
+
No. The CR2 is read and developed by a WebAssembly decoder running inside your browser tab. Nothing leaves your device.
Is the camera data (EXIF) copied to the JPG?
+
No. The JPG is created fresh, so shutter speed, ISO and GPS tags are not carried over. That is useful if you want to share a photo without location data, but keep the CR2 if you need those details.
