Three steps to convert cr3 to jpg

  1. 1

    Drop your CR3 files

Drag in .cr3 files from an EOS R card. They are read locally in your browser.

  2. 2

    The CR3 is developed

The WebAssembly decoder reads the sensor data inside the CR3 container, applies your white balance and creates a full-color image.

  3. 3

    Download the JPGs

Save each file or a ZIP. Use the quality slider to balance size and detail.

Who converts CR3 to JPG?

Canon's newer CR3 format still trips up plenty of programs. People convert it when a viewer, a form or a collaborator cannot handle it yet.

Older Photoshop or Windows setups

If your editor predates the R series, convert the CR3 to JPG rather than updating mid-project.

Sending a few frames from the field

After a shoot, turn the best CR3 frames into JPGs and send them from a laptop with no editing software.

Printing at a lab

Most print labs ask for JPG. Convert your CR3 picks and take them in.

Sharing with a collaborator on another system

Not everyone has a CR3-capable viewer, but everyone can open a JPG.

Frequently asked questions

What is a CR3 file?

+

CR3 is the RAW format Canon introduced in 2018 for the EOS M50 and EOS R and kept for the R5, R6 and newer bodies. It replaced CR2 and uses a different container, which is why many older viewers cannot open it.

Does it open C-RAW (compact RAW) files?

+

Yes. Canon's smaller C-RAW option and the full-size RAW option both decode here. We tested a 22 MB EOS R6 RAW at 5496 by 3670 pixels.

Why can't Windows or my old editor open CR3?

+

CR3 needs a recent codec or an up-to-date editor. If you do not want to update software, converting to JPG gives you a file every program accepts.

How long does one CR3 take?

+

A typical 20 to 30 megapixel file is developed in a few seconds. Time depends on your device, and a phone is slower than a laptop.

Is my photo uploaded?

+

No. Decoding runs locally in your browser using WebAssembly, and the photo is never sent to a server.

What about CR2 files from older Canon cameras?

+

They have their own CR2 to JPG page, and dropping a CR2 here also works because the same decoder reads both.
